This feature goes beyond being just an entertainment component; it signifies a major attraction that adds a cinematic dimension to the overall experience. ‘Blockbuster’ is not merely a cinema; it is an immersive space where movie enthusiasts can indulge in the latest films, complete with state-of-the-art audio-visual technology and a captivating ambiance. The Enjoyable Recreation Centre adds a layer of fun and excitement, ensuring that visitors can unwind and engage in enjoyable experiences beyond the conventional retail offerings.
POS – Point of Sales System in Shops
Jamuna Future Park prioritizes customer convenience through the implementation of Point of Sales (POS) systems in most shops within the mall. According to some sources, Jamuna Future Park has POS systems in most of its shops, which facilitate customers to pay the money instantly using their debit cards or other payment methods. This makes the shopping experience more convenient, fast, and secure for both the customers and the retailers. A POS system also helps the retailers to monitor their sales performance, manage their stock levels, and analyze customer behavior and preferences. This technological integration streamlines the customer experience by facilitating quick and convenient transactions. With POS systems, customers can make instant payments using various methods, including debit cards. This not only enhances the efficiency of the shopping process but also aligns with modern retail standards, providing a seamless and tech-savvy experience for visitors. (Jamuna Future Park Is the Largest Shopping Mall in South East Asia | The Lawyers & Jurists, n.d.)
Tolerance of 7.5 magnitude earthquake
Jamuna Future Park claims to have built with earthquake resistance as per Bangladesh National Building Code (BNBC) Zone. The shopping complex is engineered to withstand seismic activities, highlighted by its capability to endure a 7.5 magnitude earthquake. This feature ensures the safety of visitors and reinforces the structural integrity of the entire complex. In addition to being a shopping and entertainment destination, Jamuna Future Park prioritizes the well-being of its patrons, assuring them of a secure environment even in the face of unforeseen natural events. The commitment to structural stability adds an extra layer of trust and confidence for visitors to enjoy their time within the shopping complex. (Jamuna Future Park – Wikipedia, n.d.)
3.5.2 Weakness
Limited Retail Customer Base
Despite being the largest shopping mall in South Asia, Jamuna Future Park grapples with the challenge of insufficient foot traffic and retail customers. The sheer size of the complex and the myriad offerings within may not automatically translate to a steady stream of customers. Various factors contribute to this weakness, including intensified market competition from other shopping destinations, changing trends and preferences among consumers, and the need for targeted and effective marketing strategies to drive increased footfall. Understanding and addressing these factors are crucial for Jamuna Future Park to overcome the challenge of not attracting a sufficient number of retail customers.
Vendor Shortage
Another notable weakness faced by Jamuna Future Park is the inadequacy of vendors willing to rent shops within the complex. The limited presence of vendors can have a cascading effect on the variety and diversity of products and services available to shoppers. A vibrant and dynamic shopping environment relies on a diverse vendor base, each contributing unique offerings to attract a broad range of consumers. The shortage of vendors may stem from factors such as high rental costs, unfavorable terms, or a lack of incentives. Addressing these issues and devising strategies to attract and retain vendors are essential steps for Jamuna Future Park to overcome the challenge of not having enough vendors.
Geographical Location and Accessibility Challenges
The strategic geographical location of Jamuna Future Park, situated approximately 15 kilometers away from the city center, presents a notable challenge for the shopping complex. While the mall boasts extensive offerings and diverse attractions, its distance from the city center poses obstacles in terms of convenience and accessibility, influencing potential customer behavior.
The considerable distance may act as a deterrent for customers who prioritize shopping in more centrally located areas. Convenience plays a pivotal role in consumer decision-making, and the perceived inconvenience of traveling to the outskirts of the city may discourage some potential shoppers. The accessibility issues arising from the geographical distance become particularly relevant when considering the diverse modes of transportation available to customers.
According to reliable sources, the journey from Dhaka to Jamuna Future Park takes approximately 20 minutes by car, contingent on the prevailing traffic conditions. While private transportation provides a relatively quick commute, customers reliant on public transportation or taxis may find the journey time-consuming and potentially costly. The availability and reliability of transport services, especially during peak hours or adverse weather conditions, further compound the accessibility challenges faced by customers.
Moreover, the mall’s location in a flood-prone area introduces additional considerations. During the rainy season, road conditions may be affected, potentially disrupting the transportation infrastructure and further hindering accessibility. The combination of geographical distance and susceptibility to weather-related challenges necessitates strategic measures to enhance convenience and encourage customer footfall. Addressing these challenges could involve innovative transportation solutions, promotional incentives, or collaborative efforts with local authorities to improve infrastructure and mitigate the impact of adverse weather conditions on accessibility. (Dhaka to Jamuna Future Park – 2 Ways to Travel via Taxi, Car, and Foot, n.d.; Jamuna Future Park: Address, Location, Off Day – City Traveler, n.d.)
Limited affordable product range
One notable challenge faced by Jamuna Future Park is the perceived scarcity of products available at reasonable prices within the shopping complex. This limitation has implications for the mall’s ability to attract and retain a diverse customer base, especially those who prioritize budget-conscious shopping. The issue revolves around the perceived affordability of products and the overall value proposition offered by Jamuna Future Park.
Customer reviews and feedback indicate that a significant proportion of the products available at Jamuna Future Park are perceived to be priced higher than the average market rates. This pricing dynamic, coupled with the observation that some shops within the complex do not provide discounts or promotions, contributes to the perception of a lack of affordable options. Customers, particularly those with budget constraints or those seeking value for money, may find alternative shopping avenues more appealing, such as online platforms or local retailers offering competitive prices.
To address this challenge, Jamuna Future Park needs to strategically diversify its product range and introduce more affordable and competitively priced options. This diversification is crucial for appealing to a wider segment of customers and broadening the shopping complex’s appeal. Offering promotions, discounts, or special pricing initiatives can further enhance the perceived value for money, making Jamuna Future Park a more attractive destination for cost-conscious shoppers. This approach not only aligns with evolving consumer preferences but also has the potential to stimulate increased sales and revenue for the shopping complex.
Absence of discount cards
Jamuna Future Park faces a missed opportunity for cultivating customer loyalty and encouraging repeat business due to the absence of discount cards or loyalty programs. In the retail industry, discount cards are widely recognized as effective tools for customer retention and engagement. The lack of such programs may impact the shopping complex’s ability to implement robust customer retention strategies.
Discount cards typically provide customers with various incentives, such as cash back, reward points, coupons, or freebies, creating a sense of value and exclusivity. These rewards serve as motivators for customers to make more frequent purchases, spend more per transaction, and consistently choose the company over its competitors. Research indicates that loyalty programs significantly influence customer behavior, with 83% of customers stating that such programs make them more likely to continue doing business with a company.
The absence of discount cards at Jamuna Future Park represents a potential drawback in maximizing customer loyalty and, consequently, repeat business. Without the implementation of loyalty programs, the shopping complex may miss opportunities to incentivize customers, leading to potential losses in terms of sales, revenue, and the long-term allegiance of its customer base. Adopting customer loyalty initiatives, such as discount cards, could enhance the overall shopping experience, foster a sense of belonging among customers, and contribute to the sustained success of Jamuna Future Park in a competitive retail landscape.
High store rent (250 taka per square)
The high rental cost for store space within Jamuna Future Park, set at 250 Taka per square foot, is considered expensive compared to other shopping malls in the city. This pricing structure may discourage potential vendors, limiting the variety of businesses operating within the complex. (Shop for Rent in Dhaka | Bikroy, n.d.; Shops for Rent in Dhaka – Rent Stores in Dhaka | Bproperty.Com, n.d.; Warehouses and Storages for Rent in Bangladesh | Bikroy, n.d.; Warehouses and Storages for Rent in Dhaka | Bikroy, n.d.)
Carnival – Point of Difference
Jamuna Future Park takes retail and entertainment to new heights by incorporating a Carnival within its sprawling complex. This distinctive feature goes beyond the traditional shopping experience, adding an extra layer of excitement and entertainment for visitors. The Carnival becomes a focal point, setting Jamuna Future Park apart as a multifaceted destination that caters to diverse leisure preferences. But sadly this is not available for almost 2 years because of some technical issue.
Six breath taking fun rides can be found in the carnival :
- Roller Coaster
- Pirate Ship
- Sky Drop
- Magic Windmill
- Tower Challenger
- Flying Disco
Lack of Social Media Marketing
Jamuna Future Park faces a notable deficiency in its social media marketing efforts, marked by a lack of a clear communication plan or strategy. The mall struggles with maintaining a consistent brand identity, tone, and message across its various online channels. Unlike some of its competitors, Jamuna Future Park does not allocate resources for a dedicated team or agency to manage its social media accounts and curate content. Furthermore, the mall’s infrequent and irregular posting schedule contributes to reduced visibility, as it fails to leverage hashtags, keywords, or tags to optimize posts for search engines and audience discovery. A critical aspect of social media engagement, responding to comments, reviews, and feedback is neglected, hindering the establishment of a meaningful online community. The absence of incentives, promotions, or discounts diminishes the mall’s ability to attract and retain its online audience. Jamuna Future Park misses opportunities to create interactive and engaging content, such as polls, quizzes, contests, or live videos, which could significantly enhance its reach and visibility. Additionally, the mall overlooks the potential benefits of collaborating with influencers, celebrities, or media outlets to boost its online reputation and awareness. These factors collectively contribute to the evident lack of a robust social media marketing presence for Jamuna Future Park.
3.5.3 Opportunities
Attraction of international brands
Jamuna Future Park stands at a pivotal juncture with the opportunity to elevate its appeal and market positioning by actively seeking partnerships with international brands. The incorporation of renowned global brands into the retail landscape of the complex presents a multifaceted opportunity for both the shopping destination and its diverse customer base.
By attracting international brands to establish retail stores within its expansive premises, Jamuna Future Park can substantially diversify its product portfolio. The introduction of globally recognized brands ensures a broader spectrum of products, covering various categories and meeting the diverse preferences of customers. This infusion of international offerings not only enriches the overall shopping experience but also positions the complex as a hub for premium and exclusive merchandise.
The presence of international brands within Jamuna Future Park creates a distinctive allure, drawing customers who seek access to globally acclaimed products and labels. This strategy not only contributes to the enrichment of the shopping environment but also enhances the complex’s competitive edge in the retail market. Moreover, the collaboration with international brands can foster a sense of prestige and exclusivity, attracting a broader customer demographic and elevating the overall image of Jamuna Future Park.
Growth in Surrounding Areas and Population Movement
The continuous development unfolding in the vicinity of Jamuna Future Park serves as a strategic opportunity for the shopping complex to expand its reach and influence. The emerging landscape, which includes areas like Bashundhara Residential Area, Baridhara Diplomatic Zone, and Nikunja, presents a ripe prospect for Jamuna Future Park to establish itself as the preferred shopping destination for a burgeoning customer base.
As populations gravitate towards these newly developed areas, characterized by Bashundhara Residential Area’s expansive residential communities, the diplomatic enclave in Baridhara, and the cosmopolitan appeal of Nikunja, Jamuna Future Park can strategically align its marketing efforts to tap into this evolving demographic. The anticipated influx of affluent and middle-class residents, expatriates, diplomats, and business travelers provides a unique opportunity for the shopping complex to position itself as an integral part of these communities’ lifestyle and entertainment experiences.
To capitalize on this opportunity, Jamuna Future Park can implement targeted marketing and outreach initiatives. Emphasizing its proximity to key locations such as the airport, showcasing its earthquake-resistant infrastructure, and highlighting its diverse array of products and services can serve as key selling points. Additionally, the shopping complex can leverage its distinction as the world’s largest Indian Visa Application Centre, further enhancing its appeal to both local and international audiences.
Strategic communication channels, including social media, online platforms, and local media, can be harnessed to promote events, offers, and attractions within Jamuna Future Park. Engaging with the target audience through these channels not only enhances brand awareness but also fosters customer loyalty. By actively participating in the evolving narrative of the surrounding areas, Jamuna Future Park can solidify its presence, increase market share, and emerge as an integral part of the vibrant communities it serves. (Bashundhara Residential Area – Wikipedia, n.d.)
Traffic generation from Basundhara Residential Area
The strategic proximity of Jamuna Future Park to Bashundhara Residential Area presents a compelling opportunity to augment its traffic flow and engage with a significant demographic. Bashundhara Residential Area, characterized as an affluent residential and semi-business neighborhood in Dhaka, boasts a substantial population exceeding 250,000 people.
Leveraging this advantageous location, Jamuna Future Park can orchestrate targeted marketing campaigns tailored to attract residents from the densely populated Bashundhara R/A. To incentivize visits and foster customer loyalty, the shopping complex can introduce exclusive offerings such as special discounts, coupons, or loyalty cards exclusively for the residents of Bashundhara R/A.
Strategic advertising across various platforms, including local media, social media, and billboards, can effectively broadcast the diverse range of products and services offered by Jamuna Future Park. By creating a visible presence within the community, the mall can effectively communicate its unique selling propositions and position itself as a convenient, accessible, and attractive shopping destination for the residents of Bashundhara R/A.
Collaborative initiatives with key institutions within Bashundhara R/A, such as educational institutions, hospitals, and religious organizations, can further solidify the mall’s connection with the community. Sponsorship of events, programs, and activities in partnership with these entities not only contributes to brand awareness but also fosters goodwill within the local populace.
By actively engaging with the residents of Bashundhara R/A through these concerted efforts, Jamuna Future Park can establish itself as a preferred shopping destination, thereby expanding its customer base, enhancing revenue streams, and reinforcing its integral role within the community. (Bashundhara Residential Area – Wikipedia, n.d.)
Huge traffic flow generation from 300 feet road.
The incorporation of the 300 Feet Road, colloquially known as Sheikh Hasina Sarani, emerges as a pivotal opportunity for Jamuna Future Park to witness an upsurge in traffic flow. Serving as a 12.5 km long and 235 ft wide expressway, this road seamlessly links Kuril Bisshoroad and Kanchan Bridge, traversing through Purbachal New Town.
The strategic significance of the 300 Feet Road lies in its potential to streamline commuting for individuals from Dhaka, Narayanganj, and Gazipur districts. As this road evolves into a more accessible and functional route, it not only reduces travel time but also mitigates congestion for the daily commuters. Jamuna Future Park stands to benefit substantially from the heightened visibility and ease of access facilitated by this expressway.
To leverage this opportunity effectively, the shopping complex can implement a series of strategic measures. Providing convenient parking facilities, incorporating attractive and informative signage, and launching targeted promotional campaigns are instrumental in capturing the attention of a larger customer base. By ensuring that the mall is seamlessly integrated into the daily commute of individuals utilizing the 300 Feet Road, Jamuna Future Park can enhance its market reach and visibility.
Furthermore, the development of new residential and commercial areas along the 300 Feet Road augments the potential for increased demand in retail and entertainment services. Jamuna Future Park can position itself as a preferred shopping destination for these burgeoning communities by aligning its offerings with the evolving needs and preferences of the expanding market.
In essence, the 300 Feet Road emerges as a strategic asset for Jamuna Future Park, fortifying its connectivity and accessibility to a broader market, thereby positioning the shopping complex for sustained growth and relevance. Facilitation of Transportation by Metro Rail (DU to Uttara)
The impending inauguration of the metro rail line from Dhaka University to Uttara, a crucial segment of the MRT Line-6, unfolds as a transformative opportunity for Jamuna Future Park. This 20 km long line, stretching from Uttara in the north to Motijheel in the south, delineates a strategic trajectory parallel to the Turag River in the west of Dhaka, curving southeast along the path of the Buriganga River.
This standard gauge track encompasses a total of 16 elevated stations strategically positioned across bustling areas, including Pallabhi and Mirpur. Anticipated to be fully operational by March 2024, with its inaugural phase already commenced in December 2022, the MRT Line-6 promises to redefine the transportation landscape of Dhaka.
Jamuna Future Park stands to reap significant advantages from this development, as the metro rail seamlessly connects the shopping complex with pivotal locations such as the Dhaka University campus, the Bangladesh Secretariat, and the bustling Motijheel commercial area. These locales, renowned for their importance and population density, become easily accessible for potential shoppers, extending the geographic reach of Jamuna Future Park.
The introduction of an efficient public transportation system not only elevates the convenience of the shopping experience but also offers visitors respite from the perennial challenges of traffic congestion and pollution associated with road travel. The time and cost-saving attributes of the metro rail align with the evolving preferences of modern consumers, providing an added incentive for choosing Jamuna Future Park as their preferred shopping destination.
Moreover, the metro rail’s trajectory, passing over the Kuril flyover in close proximity to the mall, serves as a visual testament to the shopping complex’s accessibility and prominence. This heightened visibility is poised to enhance the overall attractiveness of Jamuna Future Park, enticing potential customers as they traverse the metro rail route.
In essence, the impending metro rail from Dhaka University to Uttara represents a pivotal opportunity for Jamuna Future Park, offering improved transportation, increased customer attraction, and heightened visibility, thereby reinforcing its status as a premier shopping destination in Dhaka. Utilization of Historical Data from Token Sales in Food Courts
The utilization of historical data stemming from token sales in Jamuna Future Park’s food courts emerges as a distinctive and strategic opportunity for the shopping complex. The implementation of a token sale system involves customers purchasing tokens centrally and subsequently using them for transactions at various stalls within the food court. This system inherently generates a wealth of data encompassing transaction details such as token numbers, values, types, sale timestamps, and redemption locations.
Analyzing this historical data unfolds a spectrum of opportunities for Jamuna Future Park, offering valuable insights into customer behaviors, popular food preferences, and peak operational hours within the food court. Leveraging this information can pave the way for optimizing food court offerings, enhancing customer satisfaction, and tailoring targeted promotional activities.
Utilization of Data Insights
- Stall Optimization: Identify the most and least popular food stalls, allowing the mall to adjust rent, space allocation, and location to optimize the tenant mix within the food court.
- Token Pricing Strategies: Determine the optimal pricing and quantity of tokens to sell. Explore offering discounts or incentives for bulk token purchases or loyalty programs to encourage customer engagement.
- Supply and Demand Management: Monitor the demand and supply of various food items, ensuring a consistent supply of quality and diverse food options to meet customer expectations.
- Customer Segmentation: Segment customers based on their spending patterns, preferences, and demographics. This information can be used to target specific customer groups with personalized marketing campaigns and offers.
- Sales and Revenue Forecasting: Utilize the data to forecast the sales and revenue trends of the food court. This strategic foresight enables effective planning for future expansions or improvements.
3.5.4 Threats
Political unrest in the nation
The presence of political instability in the country poses a significant threat to Jamuna Future Park. Bangladesh has a history of frequent and violent political unrest, often involving strikes, blockades, and clashes between the supporters of the ruling and opposition parties. These events can disrupt the normal functioning of the economy, affecting the transportation, communication, and security systems. Unstable political conditions can also impact consumer confidence, as people may postpone or reduce their spending on non-essential goods and services, such as shopping and entertainment, due to uncertainty, fear, or hardship. Moreover, political instability can create an unpredictable and hostile environment for businesses, as they may face challenges such as policy changes, regulatory hurdles, corruption, extortion, and vandalism. All these factors may hinder the shopping complex’s sustained growth, as it may lose customers, revenue, and reputation. Therefore, Jamuna Future Park needs to adopt strategies to cope with the political instability in the country, such as maintaining good relations with the government and the opposition, ensuring adequate security and contingency measures, and engaging in corporate social responsibility activities. Limited focus on customer retention
The perceptible lack of emphasis on customer retention within Jamuna Future Park’s operational framework presents a potential threat to its sustained success. Customer retention, a cornerstone of business strategy, involves fostering loyalty, satisfaction, and repeat patronage, ultimately contributing to increased profitability, reduced customer acquisition costs, and the fortification of brand reputation. Despite its pivotal role in business growth, the shopping complex appears to downplay the significance of dedicated customer retention strategies within its model.
Key Aspects of Customer Retention Neglected by Jamuna Future Park:
- Loyalty Programs: The absence of structured loyalty programs deprives Jamuna Future Park of a valuable tool to incentivize and reward repeat customers. Such programs, common in the retail industry, have the potential to enhance customer loyalty and contribute to sustained business.
- Discount Initiatives: Failure to implement effective discount initiatives represents a missed opportunity to attract and retain cost-conscious customers. Competing shopping malls and online platforms offering better value may draw away customers seeking economical alternatives.
- Feedback Surveys: The apparent lack of engagement with customer feedback surveys reflects a missed chance to gather valuable insights. Customer feedback is a powerful tool for understanding preferences, identifying areas of improvement, and tailoring services to meet evolving demands.
- Personalized Communication: A deficiency in personalized communication strategies hampers the establishment of a connection with customers on an individual level. Personalized approaches, such as targeted promotions or personalized recommendations, can enhance customer engagement.
- Customer Service Excellence: Inadequate attention to customer service may result in dissatisfactory experiences. Prioritizing exceptional customer service is fundamental to building trust, resolving issues promptly, and creating a positive brand image.
Rise in E-Commercial platforms
The burgeoning expansion of E-commerce sites in Bangladesh has emerged as a formidable competitive threat to the traditional retail model embodied by Jamuna Future Park. E-commerce, characterized by the online buying and selling of goods and services through digital platforms, has experienced exponential growth, particularly fueled by consumer shifts during the COVID-19 pandemic. (BD-Directory.Com : 150+ ECommerce Websites of Bangladesh, n.d.; We’re All Shopping More Online as Consumer Behaviour Shifts | World Economic Forum, n.d.-a)
E-commerce Landscape in Bangladesh:
- Rapid Growth: The E-commerce sector in Bangladesh has witnessed rapid growth, catalyzed by factors such as technological advancements, increased internet penetration, and changing consumer preferences, especially in the wake of the pandemic.
- Abundance of Platforms: Estimates suggest the presence of over 150 E-commerce sites in Bangladesh, each offering a diverse array of products and services spanning fashion, electronics, groceries, books, and more. Prominent platforms include Daraz, Pickaboo, Chaldal, and Rokomari.
Challenges Faced by Jamuna Future Park:
- Shift in Consumer Behavior: The rising popularity of E-commerce signifies a shift in consumer behavior, with individuals increasingly opting for the convenience and safety of online shopping. This shift poses challenges for Jamuna Future Park in maintaining footfall and traditional retail sales.
- Impact on Footfall and Sales: Footfall, denoting the number of visitors to a retail establishment, and sales, representing the revenue generated, serve as pivotal indicators of a retail business’s performance. The proliferation of E-commerce platforms introduces challenges in sustaining these metrics for Jamuna Future Park.
- Advantages of E-commerce: Online shopping platforms offer compelling advantages over physical stores, including:
- Lower Prices: E-commerce platforms often provide competitive pricing, attracting cost-conscious customers.
- Wider Selection: A broader product range contributes to customer satisfaction and choice, an advantage that physical stores may find challenging to replicate.
- Faster Delivery: The convenience of swift and doorstep delivery appeals to consumers seeking efficiency in their shopping experience.
- Ease of Comparison: Online platforms facilitate easy product comparison, aiding consumers in making informed purchasing decisions.
- Creation of Customer Loyalty: E-commerce platforms leverage strategies like rewards, discounts, and personalized recommendations, fostering customer loyalty. This poses a challenge for Jamuna Future Park in retaining its existing customer base and attracting new patrons.
Major Brands Thinking of Going Online
The prevailing trend of major brands embracing online retail represents a direct and imminent threat to the traditional shopping model embodied by Jamuna Future Park. The accelerated adoption of online shopping, particularly heightened by the COVID-19 pandemic, has prompted significant brands to reconsider their retail strategies, with a growing inclination toward prioritizing digital channels.
Impact on Major Brands:
- Online Focus: Noteworthy brands are redirecting their focus towards strengthening their online presence and operations. This strategic shift is driven by the evolving consumer landscape, where online platforms offer enhanced convenience, safety, and a broader product variety.
- Store Closures: As a consequence of this digital pivot, some major brands are making strategic decisions to close physical stores or reduce their presence in traditional shopping malls. For instance, global giant Nike has announced a concentrated effort on its digital business, severing ties with certain wholesale partners.
- Transformation of Retail Landscape: The transformation of the retail landscape is exemplified by instances where online fashion retailer Boohoo acquires brands from a department store chain like Debenhams, emphasizing the prioritization of digital platforms over physical stores.
The intention of major brands to shift towards online retail poses a direct threat to Jamuna Future Park. Online shopping trends have accelerated in recent years, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, as consumers have preferred the convenience, safety, and variety of online platforms. As a result, many major brands have decided to invest more in their online channels, and some have even closed their physical stores or reduced their presence in shopping malls. For example, Nike announced that it will focus on its digital business and cut ties with some of its wholesale partners. Boohoo, an online fashion retailer, bought the brands of Debenhams, a department store chain, but not its physical shops. If prominent brands choose to prioritize online sales and home delivery, it could impact the availability of these brands within Jamuna Future Park, influencing consumer preferences and shopping behavior. Customers who are loyal to these brands may switch to online shopping, and reduce their visits to the mall. Customers who are looking for variety and choice may also be disappointed by the limited selection of brands in the mall, and seek alternatives elsewhere. This could affect the footfall, sales, and revenue of Jamuna Future Park, and lower its attractiveness and competitiveness in the retail market. Therefore, Jamuna Future Park needs to find ways to retain and attract major brands, and offer them incentives and benefits, such as lower rent, flexible contracts, and marketing support. The mall also needs to diversify its product range and offer more local and niche brands, to cater to different customer segments and needs. 3.6 Problem Identification
During my internship at Jamuna Future Park’s Branding and Marketing department, I identified a significant strategic problem related to the absence of a coherent social media marketing strategy. This issue stemmed from several operational deficiencies within the department. Firstly, there was a lack of a clear communication plan or strategy for social media marketing, resulting in inconsistent brand identity, tone, and messaging across online channels. Additionally, the absence of a dedicated team or agency to manage social media accounts and content further compounded this problem.
Moreover, the mall’s social media presence suffered from infrequent and irregular posting on platforms, with minimal optimization for search engines and audience engagement. The failure to respond to comments, reviews, and feedback from followers or customers further exacerbated the issue. Furthermore, the mall did not leverage incentives, promotions, or discounts to attract and retain its online audience, nor did it create interactive or engaging content to enhance its reach and visibility. The lack of collaboration with influencers, celebrities, or media outlets also hindered efforts to boost online reputation and awareness.
Overall, the absence of a robust social media marketing strategy presented a strategic problem for Jamuna Future Park, as it hindered its ability to effectively engage with its target audience, enhance brand visibility, and drive footfall to the shopping complex. Addressing this issue was imperative to capitalize on the growing significance of digital platforms in shaping consumer behavior and preferences.
3.6 Recommendations
During the three-month duration of my internship, though relatively brief, I diligently endeavored to derive recommendations from my comprehensive findings and study. While acknowledging the inherent limitations of the internship timeline, I have strived to identify areas where improvement or strategic enhancements may be considered. The ensuing recommendations are founded on my observations and analyses conducted during the internship tenure which are –
- Chain of Command: In the Branding and Marketing department at Jamuna Future Park, there is a notable absence of a clear chain of command. This lack of hierarchical structure and defined roles and responsibilities within the department can lead to confusion, inefficiencies, and communication breakdowns. Without a clear chain of command, it becomes challenging for employees to know whom to report to, seek guidance from, or escalate issues. This ambiguity can hinder decision-making processes, delay project timelines, and result in duplicated efforts or tasks falling through the cracks. Additionally, the absence of a clear chain of command may contribute to a lack of accountability and ownership, as employees may not feel accountable to specific supervisors or managers. Ultimately, establishing a well-defined chain of command is essential for streamlining operations, improving coordination, and fostering a more efficient and productive work environment within the Branding and Marketing department.
- Visibility and Reach through Digital Marketing: Leveraging online platforms and digital marketing strategies is crucial for enhancing the visibility and reach of Jamuna Future Park. This involves employing a multifaceted approach, including social media engagement, targeted email campaigns, and search engine optimization (SEO). Digital ads tailored to specific demographics can effectively attract potential customers, showcase ongoing promotions, and maintain a consistent online presence. The mall should focus on creating engaging content on its website and social media platforms to keep customers informed about upcoming events, promotions, and new arrivals. By actively participating in the digital landscape, Jamuna Future Park can connect with a broader audience and stay top-of-mind among consumers.
- Arranging Unique Events: Hosting distinctive and captivating events within the mall is a strategic initiative to create memorable experiences for visitors. These events could encompass themed festivals, exclusive product launches, cultural celebrations, and various entertainment programs. Collaborating with local artists, performers, and influencers adds a unique touch to the events, attracting a diverse crowd. Beyond merely facilitating shopping, these unique events contribute to a vibrant and dynamic image for Jamuna Future Park. They transform the mall into a comprehensive destination where customers can engage in enjoyable activities, fostering a positive and lasting impression. Such initiatives not only draw footfall but also differentiate Jamuna Future Park as more than just a shopping center, positioning it as an entertainment and lifestyle hub.
- Influencer Marketing: Collaborating with influencers from the local community or relevant industry sectors can significantly boost the reach and credibility of Jamuna Future Park. Influencers have the ability to create authentic content, including reviews, unboxings, and personal experiences, which resonates with their dedicated followers. By partnering with influencers, the mall gains access to a pre-established audience, benefiting from genuine recommendations that carry weight with potential customers. It’s crucial to carefully select influencers whose values and audience align with the brand image of Jamuna Future Park. This ensures an authentic connection, maximizing the impact of the influencer marketing strategy.
- Increase Customer Engagement: Elevating customer engagement involves creating interactive and personalized experiences that go beyond traditional shopping. Implementing loyalty programs, where customers can earn points or receive exclusive discounts, encourages repeat visits and builds brand loyalty. Feedback mechanisms, such as surveys or online reviews, provide valuable insights into customer preferences and areas for improvement. The incorporation of technology, such as a dedicated mobile app, allows for features like personalized product recommendations, in-mall navigation assistance, and easy access to promotions. By actively seeking customer feedback and promptly addressing their needs, Jamuna Future Park can foster a sense of community, making customers feel heard and appreciated. This comprehensive approach to customer engagement contributes to long-term loyalty and positive word-of-mouth marketing.
By combining these strategies, Jamuna Future Park can adapt to evolving consumer preferences, differentiate itself in the market, and foster a strong and loyal customer base.
